HEPATIC TUMORS
- A neoplasm is any new growth of new tissue, either benign or malignant.
- A benign growth occurs locally but does not spread or invade surrounding structures. It may push surrounding structures aside or adhere to them.
- A malignant mass is uncontrolled and is prone to metastasize to nearby or distant structures via the bloodstream and lymph nodes.
- Thus it is important not only to recognize the tumor mass itself but also to appreciate which structures the malignancy may invade.
